Now gaining immortality via tech is their new passion what drives them, however...
The 'soul' is to each his own what it is or is not, yet we all have one if that makes sense (without claiming to know whether the literal meaning exists). And the Power they live to dominate it. And They want to live forever.

O.K. lets say they want to stay power.
But my opinion is more connected to the psychological syndrome. Those people that were suppressed by moral laws in the past become the suppressors of the future and they want to destroy all the moralities that their suppressors stood for. The situation meanwhile is pretty much completely perverted in a way that nobody knows anymore what he or she stood for initially just because of the non argument sophistic battle.
It is like Stockholm Syndrom with a subconscious revenge mode ultra.
Yes, the whole society is entranced in Stockholm Syndrome under the abusive relationship (which often includes battery) handed down to it from the system of Power. And everyone that carries on with the Two Party pop politics talking points its MSM dishes at US are all enablers. Its like everyone thinks its their fellow man that requires the tough love, when pushing that agenda casts themselves as "your will my hand" as the slaves in ancient Rome used to say.
