Alien: Coventant Review

So, having recently watched the latest installment in the Alien series, I thought I would share some of my thoughts about it with you.

I feel that this movie, while enjoyable in itself, really does not add much to the Aliens universe. It starts off on a colony ship named Covenant, which suffers a neutrino pulse with its sails deployed, leading to the crew getting awoken. This leads to them discovering an inhabitable planet that they have somehow missed in all their surveys before that.

Events proceed from there, with a couple of twists, but with an overall predictable Aliens arc. The plot has too many Chekov's guns that remain unfired, and too many topics that get introduced but then just forgotten about. Hopefully the inevitable sequels will pull on some of those threads.

The movie does have superb action, pacing and performances, which makes it an entirely enjoyable watch. If you enjoy the Aliens series, definitely give it a watch, but do not expect anything revolutionary.
