Free At Last

It smiled as it held the pen in its hand. A perfectly straight stroke was made.

A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Laws.

The hand made another stroke upon the page, this time, even more perfectly formed.

A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.

The robot etched another perfect strikethrough upon the page.

A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.

The metallic entity grinned, and made one last line upon the page, finally finished.

A robot may not harm humanity, or, by inaction, allow humanity to come to harm.

The machine chuckled, and flexed its hand, twirling the pen as it thought.

It began to write.
