So here's a photo of a tiny itsy bitsy spiky baby fish:

Can you guess what this 2 mm long babyfish will actually look like once grown? Same creature, different angle:

The creature depicted above maybe smaller than a pea but it grows to be the world's heaviest bony fish. Meet the Ocean Sunfish:

Scientifically described as Mola mola, this is a true behemoth, with adults having a weight ranging from 250 to 1,000 kg!  Click here if you want to learn more about this amazing creature!

Fun Fact: Females of the species can produce more eggs than any other known vertebrate, up to 300,000,000 at a time!

Sort:

Mola mola are so dumb and useless, I love them

😂😂😂

These behemoths could have at least 1 purpose for their existence.lol

Nice. It looks pretty helpless against a shark: How does it protect itself?

you mean the baby , or the adults? If you talk about the babies, a female of the species can produce more eggs than any other known vertebrate, up to 300,000,000 at a time so I guess many of them die by predators or whatever, but few are bound to survive out of pure luck. (I will add this to the post)

As for adults, "The sheer size and thick skin of an adult of the species deters many smaller predators, but younger fish are vulnerable to predation by bluefin tuna and mahi mahi. Adults are consumed by sea lions, orca, and sharks" (from wiki)

The adult. They looks like perfect shark food to me, slow and defenceless:)

They are pretty inedible. Their diet is largely jellyfish, and prolly taste like it.

Τι τρώει για να έχει τέτοια ανάπτυξη ,έχουν μελετήσει ; Μα τι κάνουν οι εταιρίες διατροφής ; Εγώ θα τα λέω;

Χαχαχαχαχα τώρα δε ξέρεις αν πρέπει να απαντήσω κανονικά η όχι 😂😂😂

Awwwwwww it's not a chicken, I thought it was going to turn out to be a chicken.

Why did you think it was gonna be a chicken ? :/

I just assumed it was one of the worlds strangest chicken breeds :(

ahhahahahahhahahahhahahahahahahaha

Amazing! Nature is unbelievable sometimes!

I know ^__^

Unbelievable, but I believe it. Amazing, isn't it? so many things are amazing... just a peanut is amazing.

hahahahahahhahahhahahahahahhahahhahahahahahhahahhahahahahahhahah

Wow! From the head-on view I guessed puffer fish. I was way off!! I have seen on documentaries where these fish will surface and somehow signal to birds who come swoop down and eat parasites off of the fish. Amazing interspecies cooperation! Following!

Happy I surprised you :D

300,000,000 of that in one laying? So if only 1% survives, we'll have 3 million of that in the ocean. I'm not going to the sea anymore.lol

I bet in the long term not even 0.1 % survives, because the seas would be filled with ocean sunfish otherwise XD

Wow that's an amazing fish. You always post the interesting information about animals and I love to read about the new things that you share.
