sciencepic # 6 | A Colorful Jewel Bug !
Hello steemians !
This is the picture captured by me ( with my mobile ). Scientifically called Scutiphora pedicellata, are a very beautiful colorful insect.
These are oval shaped small to medium sized with body length 5 to 25 mm. They have 4 wings underneath the scutellum ( last section of the thorax). They have characteristics segmented beak-like mouth.
They are commonly known for their brilliant color display. Color are due to pigmented chitin. When the top most layer becomes dried, the color becomes duller which is restored by moistening the surface.
