The original manuscript of Einstein's theory of relativity
If we speak of famous scientific theories, a few come to mind as founders of our understanding of the world. The theory of evolution, that of psychoanalysis, or the theory of relativity are good examples of what I mean.
The theory of relativity, precisely, was one of the most important scientific discoveries of the 20th century. Thanks to her, Albert Einstein became the most important scientist of contemporary physics.
Today we will not go into the particularities of the theory (something you can do here), but we will discover something really impressive: the original manuscript of the theory of relativity.
Albert Einstein in handwriting
The Academy of Sciences and Humanities of Israel, in Jerusalem, in 2011 turned 50 and celebrated it with an interesting exhibition in which it shows the original manuscript of Albert Einstein's theory of relativity. The manuscript was published in 1916 and consisted of 46 pages that are now fully available to the public in Israel.
Needless to say that the importance of this manuscript is vital to current conceptions of physics, since it is the first edition of the theory that allowed us to begin to understand the expansion of the universe.
«It changed our understanding of space, time, gravity; in fact, of the whole Universe, "said Hanoch Gutfreund, director of the academic committee of the Albert Einstein Archives of the Hebrew University, a complete collection of Einstein's papers.
