Consciousness is Universal and yet in scientific circles is considered controversial.  Indeed, the controversy lies in understanding consciousness, defining consciousness and ascertaining if there is a beginning and and end to it!  Scientifically speaking this is difficult to do.  Science is primarily a materialist paradigm requiring the confirmation of phenomena to be quantified using mechanistic sources and devices.  Consciousness is the elephant in the room - and a big one!  It is because of consciousness that I am writing this post and you are reading it.  Indeed, it is because of creative consciousness that this platform (Steemit) exists at all!  Therein is the conundrum.  Consciousness is like an energetic soup that envelopes us and gives us sustenance and yet we are no closer to understanding it's true nature.   Theories on consciousness abound from microtubules in neurons to morphological fields outside of the physical form, but none have been able to absolutely quantify how interacting with the physical world through the filter of the bodily senses, creates meaning and shapes our reality.  This in itself is astounding if we sit down and think about it!

There is one Institute based in Encinitas, Southern California that is actively researching consciousness and has been for the last 25 years!  The California Institute for Human Science (CIHS)

CIHS was founded by Dr Hiroshi Motoyama in 1992 and the Institute quickly became a forefront player in energy medicine and consciousness research.  Dr Hiroshi Motoyama invented a device called the Apparatus for Meridian Identification (AMI).  The AMI monitors electrical conductivity and capacity at acupoints (finger tips and toes).  These are often referred to as Set points or Jing/Well Points.  Through his research Dr Hiroshi Motoyama demonstrated a close correlation between meridian electrical conductivity and the flow of chi (energy) in the meridians.  There are numerous studies published relating to his findings and those of researchers that followed him here.

Since it's inception CIHS has been a pivotal player in education aimed at bridging the veritable gap between physical and non physical reality.  More specifically, science and spirituality. To this end much of the research published by the Institute, it's Faculty, Students and Affiliates is both stimulating, visionary and inspiring.   

This year CIHS is offering a Summer Symposium focusing on the Forefront of Consciousness & Healing Science Research:  Reports from the field.  A delightfully insightful and mind boggling array of speakers are lined up!

Feature - Keynote Speaker 

Dr Beverly Rubik, PhD

Professor Beverly Rubik is an accomplished biophysicist, completing her PhD at the University of California, Berkeley.  She is internationally renowned for her investigations relating to biofield science and energy medicine.  Indeed, her primary focus is researching subtle energetics and spiritual healing.  As an accomplished writer/researcher she has published over 60 papers and 2 books.   Dr. Rubik serves on the editorial boards of Journal of Alternative & Complementary Medicine, Evidence-Based Integrative Medicine, and Integrative Medicine Insights. She has also served on the advisory boards of a number of groups, including the Program in Integrative Medicine under Dr. Andrew Weil.

Dr. Rubik was elected one of 18 Congressionally-appointed members of the Program Advisory Board to the Office of Alternative Medicine at the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) from 1992-1997, and chaired the NIH panels on electromagnetic medicine and manual healing. 

As the Founder of the Institute for Frontier Science (IFS, 1996) she was supported by Laurance S. Rockefeller, Sr., and in 2002, IFS was awarded an NIH center grant for frontier medicine research on biofield science along with The University of Arizona. Dr. Rubik was Project Director in this project and supervised studies relating to Reiki energy healing and Qigong therapy.

Dr Beverly Rubik has appeared on numerous television programs throughout the US and worldwide, including a live appearance on “Good Morning America” (ABC-TV), where she presented her research on the human energy field in December 2000. 

She is a compelling speaker and will be discussing 'Observations on Live Blood and Nutrition for Our Times' at the Science Symposium on the 9th of July!
