Fact Friday # 1: The Mocked Scientist

Exactly 385 years ago on June 22, a famous scientist was forced to recant his view on the solar system but years after was proven to be true.

On June 22, 1633, Galileo Galilei was forced by the Holy Office of Rome to renounce his belief on the Copernican theory of the solar system wherein the Sun, not the Earth, is the center of the Universe, also called as heliocentrism.

The Catholic church at that time believed that the Earth is the center of the universe so they considered as heresy to someone who believed on heliocentrism.

It was only in 1758, which is already a century later, that the banning of books on heliocentrism was lifted.

So, nothing could really be impossible, right?
