No more plastic bottles...

Skipping Rocks Lab just unveiled an amazing new alternative to plastic. "Ohoo" is a clear, biodegradable and edible membrane made from seaweed. Their goal? Obliterate the 35 billion plastic bottles that our planet recklessly consumes each year. This blob of suspended water looks like so much fun to drink. The Ohoo product is a great example of merging sustainable goals with smart and lighthearted design.

Here's a statement from their website below, and a video introduction to their fascinating project...

"Ooho! is a sustainable packaging alternative to plastic bottles and cups, made from a seaweed extract. It is entirely biodegradable and so natural you can actually eat it! Ooho sachets are flexible packets of water, drunk by tearing a hole and pouring into your mouth, or consumed whole. Our packaging is cheaper than plastic and can encapsulate any beverage including water, soft drinks, spirits, and even cosmetics." (Quote source.)

This is the most exciting new technology I've heard all year, whoohooohooooo to you Ohoo!

also, I shared this on facebook, and will likely be talking about it all day ;-)

Now I don't have to worry about the string breaking in my anal beads :)

LOL! That's an application I doubt these bubble people have anticipated. Hahah!

Haha cool I posted about this a couple days ago as well! :D

Oh nice!! Sorry I didn't catch it. The more bubbles the merrier ;)

Haha of course! :)

Brilliant! I can't wait to try this.

Same here! I think they're going to test them at the London Marathon next year, hopefully they expand commercially / internationally too.

Great, if the product goes over well there it will be good publicity. I can see kids having fun with this too and throwing them like water balloons. Lol.

Ah. That would be a ton of fun and it's biodegradable! No rubbery plastic leftovers ;)

good idea.
use cardboard or paper as the 'over-container'

Yes! Good call! Or maybe some kind of bamboo composite. (Fast growing, like seaweed)

or cotton bags, like sugar and flour used to come in.
