Simple Tesla Coil
Of course I touched the High Voltage Arcs, who wouldn't. This was a low powered circuit so the arcs dont travel that far, like 5-10mm, so thats about 10 kV. The frequency of this circuit is around 1MHz, so when I touch the arcs, it doesnt shock me because the current doesnt run into my body. Instead it travels across my skin, skin effect, as it travels to ground. This is due to the higher frequency pushing the current to the outer diameter of the conductor.
Decreasing the diameter of the wire will reduce the reactance, or resistance, at the high frequency. Thats why there is a limit to how fast standard internet can be and fiber optics is capable of producing Gbts of data. It doesnt have to deal with the inductance of the wire.
So thats a long way of saying, this is safe to touch because it is at a high frequency, the down side is plasma is HOT!!!
Later I will drop the frequency to about 50-100 kHz and increase the input voltage to around 30-50 volts and have these arcs larger and will become more dangerous, as in theyll hurt if touched.
Lastly that top piece is the only aluminum I could find to be used as a "capacitor" a sphere would be better.
