SIDEMENT DEPOSITION ON COT PANGLIMA

in #science7 years ago

Cot Panglima is part of Bireuen district (Aceh, Indonesia). It is a highland connecting between Bireuen district and Central Aceh district. When I went to Takengon, I saw the sidement deposition on Cot Panglima. On geology, Sediment is solid material that is or has been transported from its site of origin by air, water, gravity, or ice to a field or low landscape position. Deposition occurs when the amount of sediment becomes greater than the carrying capacity of the force that is moving it (USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service).
Sidement deposition on Cot Panglima is cross-bedded in sand stone. According to the geology map (Cameron et.al, 1983) , the rock formation along Bireuen-Takengon are Telong unit that formed in the Holocene epoch ( 10.000 years ago), Enang-Enang and Lampahan unit that formed in the Pleistocene epoch (1.5 million years ago) and Keutapang formation that formed in the late Miocene epoch (5 million years ago). Bireun –Takengon formation is a member of Seumpo sandstone. Eighty two (82) km from Cot Panglima to the south, you will get a beautiful lake that is fresh sea lake (Danau Laut Tawar).
