Interesting article! I had heard about how scent is associated with memory, but I didn't realize it could have an effect on mood.
I am a public middle school teacher in the U.S. I've always found it weird that it is against the rules for students to chew gum during standardized testing. All I can come up with is maybe they don't want kids to take advantage of the scent-memory link. You know, chew spearmint gum while studying science; then pop in a piece of spearmint gum during the science exam.
That might be a little far fetched, perhaps they forbid it for simple reasons like the risk of students damaging their desks by leaving gum on them.
Although chewing gum might help them if they get nervous when taking the tests.
