An Explanation of Dark Flow in the Universe

in #science7 years ago

What Is Dark Flow?

Dark Flow is a term in astrophysics to describe a non-random, peculiar velocity of galaxy clusters. The measured redshift of distant galaxies, with the extraction of "cosmological redshift", leaves a redshift that is then termed "peculiar velocity." This peculiar velocity, according to Kashlinsky et al., appears to be in a common direction.

What Makes It So Significant?

This is really the interesting fact about dark flow, that it is in a common direction. This calculation so drastically goes against current models that it has faced much resistance and been dismissed by any means possible. If the Big Bang happened, then this is far too inexplicable to be real. So, it is just dismissed offhandedly rather than completely reassessing the model.

Colored ellipses show the direction of bulk motion for the clusters of the corresponding color. Images of representative galaxy clusters in each distance slice are also shown. Image credit: A. Dark Flow in the Infinite Universe

While this is inexplicable within the Big Bang model without offering even more extravagant explanations, it fits perfectly within an infinite universe model.

Specifically, there is no end to how large or how small a mass in the universe can be, relative to a given mass (say atoms). A given mass will pull sufficiently smaller particles that are proximal to it by the force of gravity. They will then travel in Figure-8 orbitals through the given mass. This arises in its electromagnetic field, which is how gravity causes electromagnetism in the infinite universe.

As there is no end to how large particles can become relative to a given particle, there is a mass outside of our observed universe that is so large compared to all that we can see that our entire observable universe is a portion of its electromagnetic field in the same way. Think of all that we can see as being within the confines of the "1/∞" particle of this Figure.

Thereby, the entire observable universe would arise in a peculiar velocity as it travels in a Figure-8 orbital as part of the electromagnetic field of this body. We, then, would be capable of observing this as detailed by Kashlinsky et al. Thereby, dark flow further evidences that the universe is factually infinite.

The galaxy has unlimited interesting mysteries to investigate.

Well, this is one way to blow a person's mind! It's hard to wrap my thought process around this concept.
