To know to live. Why do we suffer from allergies?

in #science7 years ago

In various parts of the world it is winter or spring time and, unfortunately, it means that there are many people suffering from allergies (including myself).

Some symptoms are:

♦Lots of liquid mucus
♦Constant sneezing
♦Urticaria

But ... what triggers these allergic reactions? And why does our body start to go crazy when there is pollen nearby?

Let's see.

Allergies are intimately connected to the immune system like most things that make our bodies act erratically.

In a normal immune system, white cells or leukocytes produce anti-bodies to fight against viruses or bacteria that want to enter your body and hurt you

As anti-bodies stay in your body, if you ever expose yourself to those same viruses or bacteria then your body will react faster and keep you healthy. In fact, vaccines work; The microbes that cause the disease are weakened so that your body can "fight" with them in a simpler way and, if you find that microbe again, your body will have the necessary antibodies to respond to the danger.

So ... the immune system is very cool and it is very good to have it but sometimes it fails and a PERFECT example of this are allergies.

As much as I like to blame my allergies on the neighbor's cat or the pollen in the air ... it's not his fault.

The real problem is your immune system. The object to which you are allergic is called "allergenic" and is usually quite harmless but, if it enters your body, somehow your body thinks it is an intruder.

Really scientists are not sure why this happens but ... that happens.

When the allergen enters your body and your anti-bodies detect it, cells called "mastocytomas" are activated. These cells are found in the bone marrow and are distributed throughout your body.

When the mastocytomas "break", they release chemicals that produce swelling. If the swelling occurs in your nose, you will have strong mucus. If swelling occurs in your airways, you will find it difficult to breathe.

Fortunately, according to one study, allergies decline as we grow. This is because our immune system weakens and, therefore, can not produce such aggressive and strong responses to allergens.

Although there are cases where allergies get worse and end up developing many more as you get older. It is a case study.
