Medical journal reported two women experienced "transient blindness" after having checked smartphones in the dark. For several months both have experienced vision loss, lasting up to 15 minutes per night. A group of specialists from London found that strange phenomenon is due to their habit to check your phone with one eye open in the dark.
Just ask them, "What were you doing when it happened?" - says Gordon Plant of the eye hospital "Murfiyld" in London in AP.
The two women, aged 22 and 40 years suffered a series of inconclusive medical tests, including MRI and cardiovascular research foreground to establish that they have checked their phones in exactly the same way.
Lying on his side, opening the eye, which is on the ceiling. The eye that is on the pillow remains closed.
A few minutes after this action, they experienced temporary loss of vision in the eye, which have watched their phones. In the beginning this has happened two or three times a week, but recently worsened to every night.
Plant and his colleagues believe that blindness in the "eye phone" is caused by the irregular getting used to the light between him and the "eye pillow."
When light falls on the retina, it causes the rod photoreceptor cells inside to change its shape. This allows optical signals to be converted into electrical impulses that are transmitted to the brain via nerve fibers.
"The retina is amazing because it can adapt to different light levels , probably better than any camera." - says Plant to NPR. "You can reduce sensitivity so that when you're on the beach or in the bright snow, you again see fairly well."
This whole process can take 40 minutes, so that after exposure to bright light again to see in the dark.
