The British billionaire Gupta wants to trump Musk’s battery

South Australia has became the fighting ground of an interesting fight between two billionaires, Sanjeev Gupta and Elon Musk over who will have the largest battery in the world.

South Australia is a place of grandiose experiments with energy storage. It was here where Elon Musk challenged himself to build the largest battery in the world in just a 100 days. And if he had failed he would have had to pay for the battery himself. But we won. He built in a 100MW/129MWh battery in Jamestown and since 2017 it has been working well providing energy to Australian households. But now a challenger appeared, a British billionaire of Indian descent Sanjeev Gupta.

Gupta wants to defeat Musk with a 120MW/140MWh battery. If he succeeds he will be the author of the largest battery in the world. The battery should be connected to a solar farm that belongs to the Whyalla Steelworks company in Port Augusta.

If there is anyone who is happy because of this billionaire’s duel, it’s Australia. South Australia has a big demand for projects that would make it energetically safe after the big storm of 2016 that caused a blackout in all of South Australia. And that is exactly what these batteries bring to the table.

competitions bring the best outcome . Australia is getting benefitted by his duo billionaire combat :)

I love how far sustainability efforts have come.

People are fighting over battery bragging-rights.

Maybe there is some hope...!
