New Approach Can Reprogram Skin Cells Into Immune Cells
One of the methods we use to fight cancer is immunotherapy in which experts try to get the body to actively fight the tumors.
A team from the Lund University has announced that they developed a procedure that allows them to reprogram skin cells into dendritic cells which could make immunotherapy much easier. You see, immunotherapy is quite hard. Sometimes cancer can make the dendritic cells behave unusually. And there also exists an option that the organism will just reject the whole treatment.
But if you created the immune cells directly from the patients body then the chances of success rise rapidly. And that is exactly what the scientists managed to do. Not only are these reprogrammed cells capable to alert the immune cells about the cancer cells but also the scientists can set them to look for precise targets.
Cancer is one of the banes of modern medicine. This new process may with time save millions of lives.
