The Gene From The Girl That "Never Aged" Could Hold The Key To Biological Immortality

in #science7 years ago

This study is actually done posthumously as the test subject; Brook Megan Greenberg, died on 24th October 2013 at the age of 20. But until her death, she looked like a toddler because of a condition she was diagnosed with: "Syndrome X" which was later renamed to "Neotenic Complex Syndrome"

The only thing that increased was her numeric age, the other features were; more or less; stagnant (Height=76cm, Weight=7.3kg). She also had a mental age of a toddler.

The doctors never had a certainty in the diagnosis of the anomaly in her chromosomes and was not linked to any known genetic syndrome.

That being said, is there a way to isolate the DNA strands directly linked with this "Syndrome X" and possibly editing them to be used to fight aging? Nothing is impossible. Actually, when geneticists sequenced her DNA, they made a shocking discovery that she could be the key to unlock the world of immortality. With the advances in gene editing tool like; CRISPR, there is a possibility in this.

Her case was referred to as miracle, even among scientists. Because she never showed any signs of hormonal problems or damages, except for the fact that she aged "extremely very slowly".

Genetics and immortality

The genetics of immortality could be said to be becoming more understood. There are advances towards achieving biological immortality. And this gene from Brook could be a major breakthrough. Whatever made her "not to age" could be what we need to reverse the process of senescence which will ultimately lead to immortality in humans.

The DNA strand could be isolated, genetically modified, and incorporated into a healthy individual. Just like scientists have quipped:

The first person to achieve immortality is already living among us.

Immortality really beckons. But like I once said:

If scientists will make humans immortal, they should also make them healthy too. Because, no one will want to live eternally in a vegetable state.

She was not ageing, but her brain was not ageing as well. This is an issue to me. You don't want to live surrounded by never-ageing toddlers ;)

Exactly no one wants that... That would make the world shrink... Because growth is important.

You're right. I just hope scientists will figure out a way to tweak out the bad side of her genome. Because it will be scary to have a mental age of a toddler eternally

Am not so sure we should go that way. Anyways, we will see :)

Exactly, we'll see what the future holds :)

I tells you baba... I no live for ever with toolder brain.

I dey tells u bro. D tin get as e be oo

Corret!! This one make sense wella. Abeg, if they planing to make people immortal, let them enjoy life not being in a vegetative state. That way, we'll have people killing themselves o abi begging for murder sef....

I dey tells u bro. Cos dis one get as e be oo

If scientists will make humans immortal, they should also make them healthy too. Because, no one will want to live eternally in a vegetable state.

Well said.
I rest my case. :-)

Exactly bro. Thanks a lot
