Good Morning Everyone In Steemitland!

Today, I want to talk a little bit about mushrooms.
Studying them, growing them and eating them.
This is our newest venture.

Mycology : the scientific study of fungi

Now that the chickens are settled in, the gold panning stuff is put away for the winter and 2 feet of snow is on the ground, Dave and I decided we wanted to study miraculous mushrooms! We have done so much research over the past few months that we think we have a good understanding of why fungi are so important to every living creature on Earth.

Did you know that mycelium (the vegetative part of a fungus, consisting of a network of fine white filaments) is the basis of our ground underneath us?

Thousands of miles of filaments make up some of the most dense groundcover on Earth.

fact...Did you know that humans are closely related to mushrooms?

From www.scienceabc.com As it turns out, animals and fungi share a common ancestor, and branched away from plants at some point about 1.1 billion years ago. It was only later that animals and fungi separated on the genealogical tree of life, making mushrooms more closely related to humans than plants.

I find this information fascinating and we need to get the word out there about how important fungi is to the production of many living things.

How does a plant benefit from fungi?

Some fungi help trees and other plants to grow. Because the fine threads that make fungal mycelium can spread over long distances, fungi can capture water and nutrients from far away and bring them back along the fine threads and close to plant roots.

Dave and I also have a clearer understanding of how the practice of ingesting psilocybin can help with a plethora of issues...from depression and anxiety to overcoming fears..

mushrooms are magical

We decided to document our entire process from spores to cakes so look for way more information in the near future (I am off work with an injury so I can blog all day)
This is just a small teaser photo of our new babies... This is day 10 and they are starting to look wonderful...white all around.
