Wild rabbit: the Ecosystem Engineer

I moved to Hive. You can read all my content there.
Due to a sad series of events steem is no longer decentralized nor censorship-resistant.
I don't know how it will look like in the future but right now it's more like a personal database than a proper blockchain.

That is a great post! I own a rabbit rescue and do extensive research on the European rabbit. The domestic rabbit exhibits many of the traits of their cousins in the wild, I love to read about how rabbits live in the wild, and it has helped me care and understand my domestic bunnies. This post really explains the unrecognized importance of the European rabbit to our ecosystem.
It looks like they don't have any fear of putting their warrens near human structures, like those fences. Are they much problem for farmers and gardeners?
Yes they can be. They don't occupy the space homogeneously. In some areas there are low density populations (which is a problem to conservationists and hunters) but at the same time some farmers complain about them. They can achieve high densities locally even though regionally they can be classified as rare.
Well, then, I guess they could be another type of "garden harvest". My dad traps rabbits (Eastern Cottontails) in Arkansas, in the US, using little homemade wooden boxes that look like a tunnel. He baits them with an apple or carrot. They work pretty well. The state rules let him put out 8 traps all the time. He doesn't like rabbits in his garden!
Yeah. They often require that kind of management.
no doubt! :O
Great post ;)
Gracias por esta publicacion. He visto una documental de los lobos y como ayudan formar sus sistema ecologico en Yellowstone National Park, EEUU. Steem on!
I saw that too. It's great!
Fantastic post! Love the pics! There should now be a myth about the engineer rabbit:).
