Why you should use PhET

in #science8 years ago (edited)

For those of you who do not know what PhET is , it is interactive simulations in maths and science designed to help students better understand certain topics or just for people who like to learn . Bonus It is completely free to use and you can download the simulations to use offline if you like it .

PhET Interactive Simulations, a project at the University of Colorado Boulder, is a non-profit[1] open educational resource (OER) project founded in 2002 by Nobel Laureate Carl Wieman. PhET began with Wieman’s vision to improve the way science is taught and learned. Their stated mission is "To advance science and math literacy and education worldwide through free interactive simulations."

PhET uses interactive illustrations and games to make it easier to understand a topic and in subjects like science where particles (invisible) can not be seen it gets difficult for students to comprehend the subjects because its all about applying what you know . As research suggests we understand better once we see how something works and in PhET simulations the particles are clearly shown.

PhET simulations are open ended so users can learn by exploring . The environments respond directly from the users input giving them full control of the simulations. Students can recreate a scenario that they struggle with and by doing so they are learning the concept all by themselves.

All PhET simulations are animated which is probably why people find it to be very educational. It makes learning concepts fun by removing the boredom factor that keeps people from being interested in learning. The animated simulations also makes it easier to understand concepts that we don't normally see with the naked eye.

PhET is available in over 65 languages making it applicable for almost all of the world.

Available in:English, Afrikaans, Arabic, Brazilian Portuguese, Chinese, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Persian, Polish, Russian, Spanish, Thai, Turkish, Vietnamese....
