[ARTICLE] The Age of Doubt

in #science7 years ago (edited)
In july 1969 did Neil Armstrong pronounce the words: "This is a small step for man, one giant leap for mankind". While these famous words were broadcasted around the world, was Neil standing as the first human of the history on the moon. Or did he? Skeptics have for a long time claimed that the moon landing was fabricated in a film studio.

The prelude of the moon landing was the space race between the Soviet Union and the US. It was important because of political reasons to demonstrate who in the Cold War was superior in technology. The Soviet Union was first at sending a human (Jurij Gangarin) in orbit around the earth. President Kennedy made a speech to the congress, saying he wanted a man on the moon by the end of 1960. And the space race began. 20th of july, 1969 did Apollo 1 land on the moon, and planted the American flag on the surface.

The skepticism of science is growing, and the attitudes are like never before. What makes sensible people doubt science?

Skeptics say the flag on the famouse picture was waving, which is impossible since there is no atmosphere on the moon. They say there is shadows in the picture that falls in different directions, something that's should be impossible on the moon, where the sun is the only light source. Pictures of the earth didn't contain stars. And they say that there is no visible blast crater from the landing. NASA and others have several times answered the hypotheses, with detailed proof of the landings.

We are living in a time were science based knownledge is questioned, by organized opponents. They are asking whether evolution and climate change is real. With their own sources and interpretations of research papers has skeptics gone to war against experts. It is written limitless on these topics, and it's talked about in many books and conferences and has become a widespread idea in the pop culture. And in some ways it's not even surprising. Our lives are full of science and technology like never before.

Ok, I have to say it if no one else will. I can't believe it's 2017 and people think the earth is flat. Everyone knows we live on a giant spinning globe. NASA has shown us the truth, why would a huge well-funded government military agency ever lie or deceive us? I've seen the faces of the astronauts, honest as peach pie. I hear that one is even a Christian. Golly, these folks have seen Heaven and Earth for themselves with their own eyes, from a scientific vantage point that no one else has ever had and they have reported to us the mathemagical, irrefutable, honest truth. And we can believe them. We've been to the moon. And back again. 'Merka! @ironshield
