Note by author past editing deadline: Experimental details mention 5 ml of 5 mM primer. Those should be "micro-" instead of "milli-." Sorry for any confusion. Feel free to reply if interested.

Reaction mixtures consisted of 25 microliters SYBR Green® Supermix (Bio-Rad Laboratories, Hercules, CA), 5 microliters of 5 micromolar eubacterial universal forward primer 27f (Lane 1991, 5’-AGAGTTTGATCMTGGCTCAG-3’), 5 microliters of 5 micromolar eubacterial universal reverse primer 1492r (Lane 1991, 5’-TACGGYTACCTTGTTACGACTT-3’) etc., etc., etc.
