Korean shamanism includes a variety of adat beliefs and practices that have been influenced by Buddhism and Taoism. In present-day Korea, shamanism goes by the name "muism and shaman mudang".

Mudang, usually a woman, acts as a prayer between god or god and man. Those who want help from the spirit world are asking for help from this Korean dukun. The dukun's duty usually invokes luck for clients, cures illness by evicting evil spirits, or reconciling villages. Sometimes they also help guide the spirits of the dead to heaven. A woman's arsenal also has a male colleague called paksu.

The world of Shamanism or shamanism in Korea has played an important role in the development of Korean civilization, starting from the emergence of the Dangun myth in 2333 BC to this day.

If the northern civilization of Korea, centered in Manchuria, while South Korean civilization, centered in Gyeongju, both have formed the dynamics of shamanism. Uniquely, Shamanism is regarded as a different religion but has permeated into the daily life of its people. Although the Korean government has repeatedly tried to eradicate this religion, but shamanism continues to thrive in both North Korea and South Korea.

In ancient times, mudang was a hereditary worker. The marsh usually form their own community and come from low social status. Their families rarely marry people from higher social classes. The princess of the shamans, can be a mudang after attending proper training or kisaeng, a waiter at a Korean drinkinghouse. The traditional healers usually also become the singers of the musicians who accompany the shamanic ritual or part of the opera team. The rituals performed by the mudang always involve singing and dancing activities used to invite happiness and evict evil.

A kut (part of the marijuana ritual) usually consists of 12 Kori (each of which is addressed to certain gods such as for god giving birth, gods of gods and goddesses of property, goddess controlling certain diseases, shaman spirit shaman, or protector of household deity. begins, an altar is set on the floor and offerings are made. When the ritual takes place, the mudang enters the god realm and when the god is said to arrive, then the mudang communicates by delivering messages from or to the client (on behalf of family, village, or country).

In the past, shamanic ceremonies have been incorporated into parts of agricultural ceremonies, such as prayers for an abundant harvest. With the shift from agriculture to modern-day Korea, much of this ritual has been abandoned. Korean shamanism seeks to solve human problems through pleading for help from spirits in the ranks of the Korean gods. Shamans perform shamanic ceremonies to invoke the benefits of spiritual help, for various reasons (eg, marriage, death, moving to a new home). Often a woman will be reluctant to return to being a mudang, after experiencing severe physical or mental illness.
