A team of researchers have documented, in detail, the behaviour habits of air plane passengers to try and determine the likelihood of an infectious passenger transmitting their virus to surrounding passengers, possibly causing a global pandemic. Vicki Stover Hertzberg et al wrote a paper named “Behaviours, movements, and transmission of droplet-mediated respiratory diseases during transcontinental airline flights”. The results show a spread of infection by 0.7% so for every 1 person boarding with an infection 1.7 people will leave infected. One flight attendant however can infect 4.6 people during a flight. If you are sat on the aisle you are exposed to more chances of transmission than people next to a window.

A study revealing gender stereotypes has documented children’s responses when asked to draw a ‘scientist’. Toni Schmader, a psychological scientist says “children draw what they see”. Now apparently children are seeing more examples of women ‘scientists’. The ratio of children’s drawings representing women researchers has increased from 0.6% in the 60’s to 28% since the 80’s. Revealing children are now more exposed to female scientists. The findings were published in Child Development.

NATO has spent a lot of money on it’s missile defence systems, practically cloaking the west under a protective shield. However, Russia and China have decided to focus their military expenditure on making the current shield redundant. Hypersonic weapons are able to penetrate the shield resorting us back to the cold war stand-off using only deterrence tactics. Air Force Gen. John Hyten, commander of U.S. Strategic Command has said “"We don't have any defense that could deny the employment of such a weapon against us… "A hypersonic threat is a system that starts out ballistic, so you'll see it like a ballistic missile, but then it depresses the trajectory and flies more like a cruise missile or airplane," Hyten said. "It goes up into the lower reaches of space and turns immediately back down and then levels out."

Russia has said in response to the recent publicity over its hypersonic weapons: "I want to tell all those who have fuelled the arms race over the last 15 years, sought to win unilateral advantages over Russia, introduced unlawful sanctions aimed to contain our country's development: All that you wanted to impede with your policies have already happened," Putin said. "You have failed to contain Russia." Putin says the missiles able to travel 20 times the speed of sound are “like a fireball”.

A virus fished out a pond has treated a man's infection after it became resistant to antibiotics. The virus type known as Phages or “bacteriophages” are a promising advancement in treating infections when people become resistant to antibiotics. The virus is used to exclusively infect and kill bacteria. People have already spoken of their fear that phages are destined for the same fate as antibiotics. What could be next if anything?

LSD could be a vital aid in taking down perceived personal barriers between people. Katrin H. In light of the immense need for improved and targeted interventions for social impairments, it is important to better understand the neurochemical substrates of social interaction abilities… The administration of lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) in combination with functional magnetic resonance imaging and real-time eye-tracking offers the unique opportunity to study alterations in self-experience, their relation to social cognition, and the underlying neuropharmacology. Results demonstrate that LSD alters self-experience as well as basic social cognition processing in areas of the ‘social brain'. “

Scientists have been playing with the skin of unborn fetuses. Incredibly the skin can be damaged to a point of scarring but it miraculously heals without any scarring. Now scientists are using this knowledge to design new Biomaterials with regenerative properties, when tested, it is highly effective in wound healing. These nano-fibres are currently being tested on mouse wounds at the local mouse hospital.

Encryption tech has been popularised among the public through user friendly applications on many smart phones. Russia’s Supreme Court however wants apps like Telegram to be compliant with requests for user data. Russia is one of Telegram’s largest markets, so the company is happy to pay court fines rather then lose it’s integrity. If Telegram does not play ball Russia will block the app in it’s entirety within the country.
