The Institute, where created the future of modern physics

in #science7 years ago

Today @lemouth published a post about A new doubly-charmed particle has been discovered at the LHC, and I wanted to write about the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna, which also makes a significant contribution to the development of elementary particle physics, along with CERN (the world's largest laboratory of high energy physics).

What is a joint Institute for nuclear research? Primarily, the JINR

is an international intergovernmental organization, a world-renowned scientific center, which is a unique example of successful integration of fundamental theoretical and experimental studies of the development and application of the newest technologies and University education.

The Charter of the Institute declares the principles of openness for participation to all interested States, of their equal and mutually beneficial cooperation.

Which countries are members of JINR? At the moment 18:

Azerbaijan Republic, Republic Armenia, Republic of Belarus, Republic of Bulgaria, socialist Republic of Vietnam, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Democratic people's Republic, the Republic of Cuba, Republic of Moldova, Mongolia, Poland, Russian Federation, Romania, Slovak Republic, Republic of Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Czech Republic. At the governmental level, Agreements have been signed on cooperation with Hungary, Germany, Egypt, Italy, Serbia and the Republic of South Africa.

And that's not all. Academic Council (which produces science policy) includes eminent scientists representing the member States, as well as famous physicists from Hungary, Germany, Greece, India, Italy, China, USA, France, Switzerland, the European organization for nuclear research (CERN), etc.

I cannot not say how wonderful place is this Institution. Dubna — the science city in the North of Moscow region (121 km from Moscow) on the Volga river, bounded by the Dubna and Sister, the Moscow canal and the Ivankovo reservoir.

As you know, technology has leaped forward. And without the exchange of experience with largest research centers (and it is my strong belief) the world would not have received so many outstanding discoveries and confirmed scientific hypotheses. Because each nuclear installation costs fabulous money. As well as ongoing research and source materials. To operate such institutions can only with serious support at the state level or even community States.

March 26, 2016 Joint Institute for Nuclear Research celebrated its sixtieth birthday.

The strategy for the development of the joint Institute for nuclear research (JINR) in recent years is determined by the triad "science — education — innovation".

Therefore, along with the research and the scientific elaboration Institute in Dubna has become the largest smithy staff as to their needs and export. For example, from 2 July 2017 during the week in Dubna hosts the annual, already the ninth student scientific and technical school "workforce of the future". I personally am very pleased with this fact. It proves, that there are still in our country the dreamers and young scientists, who will worthily continue the traditions of scientific schools of fundamental and applied research of the Institute.

The most important aspect of activity JINR is International cooperation. The Institute maintains contacts with more than 800 research centres and universities in 64 countries of the world.

Think about these numbers. More than eight hundred research centers working in cooperation despite the various obstacles posed by governments and different understanding of ideology and ways of further world development.

The Institute has an impressive set of pilot facilities: the only in Europe and Asia superconducting accelerator of nuclei and heavy ions the Nuclotron, the heavy-ion cyclotron U-400 and U-400M with record beam parameters for experiments on the synthesis of heavy and exotic nuclei, the unique neutron pulsed reactor IBR-2, used for research in neutron nuclear physics and condensed matter physics, and a proton accelerator – the Phasotron that is used for radiation therapy.

If we talk about the latest significant contribution to the world of experimental physics and chemistry, that I want to say about

the decision of the International Union of pure and applied chemistry on the assignment of the 105-th element of the Periodic system of D. I. Mendeleev "Dubniy" names, 114 — "Fleroviy" – in honor of the Flerov Laboratory of nuclear reactions of JINR and of its founder academician G. N. Flerov, 115 mu of "Muscoviy", in honor of the Moscow region, which perpetuates the ancient Russian land that is the location of JINR and the 118-th — "Oganeson" — in honor of academician Yu. TS. Oganesyan (FLNR, JINR) for his fundamental contribution to the study transactinide elements.

In the next posts I want to write about other scientific projects of the Institute, also about the work of the ISS (international Space Station). And about the close cooperation of a number of countries in terms of space exploration. I'm appreciate your review.

To be continued...

great post with amazing pictures
following you

THK. Following you=))

Nice post, Thanks for sharing

Please=)))

we need plenty of those in all the sciences!
Soy tu tio

I agree=)))

This is one of the places that I still need to visit. I have never been to Russia (and I have no trip to Russia planned so far), but I am already looking forward to go there :)

This is true JINR was known for the chemical elements, but great researchers in other fields are also from there :)

Be sure to come!! We have so many beautiful places! And scientific school in Russia is one of the best!=))

It is more a matter of finding a spot in the agenda (and of a scientific event to attend ;) )

Understand=)
