Maple Syrup enhances the efficacy of Antibiotics

Maple syrup is indispensable for pancakes. Authentic maple syrup is a mysterious food made by boiling down sap flower sap for a long time, but it may be a different indication than syrup made with just sugar. It turned out that there was a possibility that maple syrup could become a trump card for repelling the so-called " superbug " bacteria that antibiotics do not work.

So Ms. Nathalie Tufenkji from the McGill University of Canada focused on the ingredients of maple syrup with the clues that indigenous people in Canada were drinking maple syrup as a measure against infectious diseases. And we confirmed that the phenolic compounds contained in the maple syrup enhanced the effect of commonly used antibiotics .

Ms. Tufenkji extracted phenolic compounds from commercially available maple syrup and conducted an experiment using flies. I fed a fish with pathogenic bacteria and antibiotics in flies and compared it with a mixture of phenolic compounds mixed with it. Among phenolic compounds, especially catechol, the effect of the antibiotics ciprofloxacin and carbenicillin has been greatly enhanced, so that the antibiotics were made into bacterial cells.

By the way, this research team was announced at the American Chemical Society National Convention, but there are also other maple syrups that suppress chronic inflammation and degeneration of the nerves, preventing obesity, good for intestinal bacteria, maple syrup There were lots of studies that appealed of the merits.

That is because some of the research teams announced here received funding from the Québec Maple Product Producers Association in Canada. More than 70% of the world maple syrup is said to be made in Quebec. However, regarding this paper by Tufenkji, we have not received funds from this group.

However, even if such circumstances of such adults are left, this research itself has not finished yet. Everyone wants to know what it would be like in the end when they did with a human being instead of a fly or a mouse, but I do not yet understand it.

Nonetheless, if you really can improve the antibiotic effect with maple syrup, you may be able to reduce the amount of antibiotic you drink in case of illness, so that good fungus in the body may not die I do not.
