'World's oldest' 48-feet long "Sleeping Buddha" statue discovered in Pakistan!
A centuries-old 'sleeping Buddha' statue unearthed during excavations near Bhamala Stupa in Haripur district, according to local news agency.
According to Director of Archaeology And Museums, Dr Abdul Samad, "The 48-feet long 'sleeping Buddha' statue history dates back to the 3rd century, which makes it the world's oldest statue." Its head was found intact during excavations by archaeologists.
"We have discovered more than 500 Buddha-related objects during excavations, in addition to the 48-feet long 'sleeping Buddha',” he said. “This is one of the few sites in the world to have the cruciform Stupa, which was reserved for Buddha himself,”
The discovery of this ancient statue has opened new ways to study the old civilization of that area and further excavations is expected to reveal more artifacts.
