Entropy and the Origin of Life on Earth (8 min clip)
In today’s lesson, the team examines a new theory of the origin of life, in which entropy plays a vital role. Mainstream science says that chance plays a large role in the story of how life emerged on earth, but Jeremy England, a physicist at MIT, argues that the conditions of primordial earth produced physical mechanisms whereby entropy naturally produced living structures.
We’ll compare this theory to the mainstream one, and try to figure out what each implies about God, the universe, and our role in the story.
