Why Reducing Calories Can Extend Age?

Many previous studies have found a relationship between the number of calories a little by extending life. The study was tested on several animals, such as worms, mice, and monkeys.

Several studies have also proven that people who reduce 15-18 percent of calories have fewer cholesterol and glucose levels.

Leaving from here, Leanne Redman of Pennington Biomedical Research Center, Louisiana, USA, together with his team wants to investigate more about calories and healthy living.

They also have strong reasons that can explain why reducing the number of calories can prolong life.

It turns out to be related to the condition of the body when we sleep.

People who eat 15 percent fewer calories will have a big effect on what happens in the body during sleep.

Redman and his team tested the application of low-calorie diets and ate at will to 53 adults at random.

For two years, 34 people were asked to consume foods with 15 percent fewer calories. While the rest are freed to eat anything at will.

In a report published in the journal Cell Metabolism, researchers found something interesting from participants who do low-calorie diet.

Those who ate fewer calories experienced a dramatic decrease in metabolic rate at night. In addition, there is also a small decrease, but significant to body temperature at night.

"Metabolism measured during sleep, decreased by 10 percent."

When the experts analyzed blood samples of participants who consumed fewer calories, experts found they had a 20 percent decrease in oxidative cell stress.

Oxidative stress is a cellular damage caused by a by-product of metabolism. This condition is considered a major trigger of aging.

Redman argues, a low-calorie diet may encourage the body to have a lower resting metabolic rate.

This is an evolutionary mechanism for saving energy when food is scarce or hard to come by. The same thing as the hibernating animals do.

"This study is the first to show that the human body will respond to a reduction in calories by decreasing metabolic rate during sleep," added Luigi Fontana of the University of Washington, Missuri.

It should be noted, reducing the number of calories by limiting the food is not easy for some people. Planning is necessary from the outset with extreme caution because side effects can lose libido and feel cold.
