Recent studies say reducing smoking does not have an impact on lung function. New lungs improve if someone actually stops smoking.

Reducing the number of cigarettes smoked per day is believed to be one way to save the lungs of smokers. Yet according to recent studies, reducing the number of cigarettes has no benefits.

The benefits to new lungs are seen when quitting smoking altogether. Dr Amanda Matthew of Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, analyzed data from 3,140 participants to see if reducing the amount of smoking benefits the lungs.

The results mentioned, lung ability is very bad if participants smoke regularly. In addition, regular smokers are also at risk 26 times greater experiencing emphysema, ie lung baggage damage that occur slowly.

The researchers then compared the lung function of light smokers with former smokers. It was found that lung function of former smokers is better than light smokers.

The risk of emphysema in former smokers persists, which is 2.8 times greater than those who never smoked. However, this figure is still lower than the light smoker group whose risk is 7.7 times greater.

The results of this study said Dr. Amanda be proof that there is no safe limit in smoking. The only way to maintain lung health is to stop smoking altogether.

Reducing cigarettes may be the first step, but the ultimate goal is to stop altogether. The reason, the risk of lung disease persists even though the number of cigarettes consumed is reduced.
