Science Experiment : How To Make A Simple Periscope
Hello all steemians and science lover. In this interesting experiment this time, we will make A Simple Periscope. In this post will explain about How to make periscope, Demonstrate periscope function, Show how periscope work.

Theoretical Basis
Periscope is a binoculars used for submarines. However, the periscope is not only used in the submarine but also serves to see objects that are above or below our position.
A periscope allows us to see things with a higher viewing angle or obstructed by higher objects.
Periscope is an optical tool for observing an object from a hidden position. A simple periscope can be made using a tube given a parallel mirror facing each other at an angle of 45 ° on each side.
A periscope is an instrument for observation over, around or through an object, obstacle or condition that prevents direct line-of-sight observation from an observer's current position. In its simplest form, it consists of an outer case with mirrors at each end set parallel to each other at a 45° angle.

Principle of the periscope. The periscope on the left uses mirrors whereas the right uses prisms.

b. Prisms
c. Observer's eye

Principle of the lens periscope. The two periscopes differ in the way they erect the image. The left one uses an erecting prism whereas the right uses an erecting lens and a second image plane.
a. Objective lens
b. Field lens
c. Image erecting lens
d. Ocular lens
e. Lens of the observer's eye
f. Right-angled prism
g. Image-erecting prism
Simple periscopes are often used as a tool to see when blocked by crowds. Sophisticated periscope is commonly found in armored combat vehicles and submarines.
Tools and Materials

Creation Steps
- Prepare tools and materials.
- Measure the height of 30 cm, length and width of the cardboard adjusted to the size of the mirror.
- then drawing on the cardboard according to the size.
- After that cut the cardboard according to size.
- Give a hole on each front that will be paired with a mirror.
- Install the mirror with the diagonal line slope at the top and bottom facing each other.
- Periscope ready to use.

Results Observation
Based on observations made from simple periscope making, Objects located in hidden positions can be seen clearly when viewed using periscope.
Discussion
A simplest periscope has two mirrors, one located on the top (functioning as the eye of the peeper), the other one located at the base of the periscope.
The principle of periscope work is the formation of shadows by repeating reflections on two mirror surfaces arranged parallel to face to face.
The reflected light of the object enters in the first mirror and then is reflected perpendicular to the second mirror. The second mirror reflects back the shadow perpendicular to the eye of the observer. This is a reflection that allows us to see through high walls or corners that are difficult to reach by the eye.
Conclusion
Based on observations on the simple periscope that has been made, the light reflects off the object on the other side of the barrier about the mirror at the top of the periscope. Because of the angle of this mirror, the light is reflected back in the lower mirror of the periscope. So in the bottom mirror will be seen shadow object that is behind the barrier.
