Yes, but... not exactly robots. The only thing they can do is... moving themselves. The inspiration comes from plants world.

Some plants have multiple layers of cells which are affected by moisture in different way that's why one side tend to stretch or swell more than the other. It results in some sort of motion and researchers uses this to drive 'robots'. Just like on the gif below.
