China's goal: Total camera surveillance with AI within three years

In the meantime, generations are growing up who are used to us being monitored at every turn. Partly we notice it, partly it happens imperceptibly. Sometimes we try to avoid the looks of our big brother.

There are people who only use an anonymous cell phone (surprisingly they can still be purchased). Some refuse Facebook or publish a joke picture on it.

I know some people who "get the crisis", as we would say (which means they get uoset and nervous and want to have their portrait removed), when they happen to be seen in a photo for regional news. Some grew angry at the authorities because our new passports require fingerprints.

Those peoople all forget that all our data, including passport photos, are digitally recorded - from our accounts to our personal files and the travel bookings. It's only a matter of time until everything is intertwined and retrievable like in the action thriller "Enemy of the State)" with Will Smith https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enemy_of_the_State_(film)

We're not far from it.
In the Chinese city of Guiyang (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guiyang) total surveillance has already been implemented and is proudly demonstrated. BBC reported on it at the end of December 2017. As can be seen from the textual description of the documentary, China relies on total camera surveillance with face recognition and artificial intelligence (AI).

It's only a matter of time before this becomes the global standard.
I'd really like to know what you think about it.

I thought to myself: "But isn't that what many people warn us about who are mocked as conspiracy theorists? Everything happens "for our protection", they always say.

In any case, thanks to today's technology there is no longer any place on or under the ground where one could hide. "Oh, I don't have anything to hide," you hear. Yes, I have nothing to hide, but I feel a little uncomfortable that there is no such thing as privacy anymore.

We are on the verge of an era in which more and more utopias from science fiction novels are being realised. The only question is: who will it serve? Us, the lower 99 percent, or the other one?

One also wonders: Why the huge effort? Does this make our life worth living? Is it an inevitable development? Shall we look away? Should we now turn to human values and focus on cooperation? Questions about questions....

This is a re-post of my recent article in German language https://steemit.com/deutsch/@martinamartini/chinas-ziel-totale-kameraueberwachung-mit-ki-innnerhalb-von-drei-jahren I translated it into English upon request of my dear fellow-Steemian @noorijaz.

Always glad to receive feedback on my posts. Thank you for reading!

I love technology, but this is not something I am for.. We need our freedoms, it's what makes us humans... And we still give it away like it's nothing :(

Most people aren't aware. What's your proposal?

Well, Ben Franklin: said If you give up your freedom for safety, you don't deserve either one... And I strongly believe in this... I think changing our educational system and teaching children real values is something we must rely on...If we want to change this World to be a better place, than our new generations must do that, BUT we need to teach them!
I hear whole lotta people saying that kids are like this and like that and they're ones to be blamed.. But I believe we are the ones to be blamed 'cause we are the teachers and it's our goal to pass the real knowledge on them. As 2pac said: and for me it's reversed, we left them the World that's cursed and it hurts..

Teach your children well... And old song. I fully agree. And you are right, up to now we left lots of devastation, everywhere around. It's time for a change and I can feel the change. It is already at our doorstep.
That's why I believe in Steemit being one of the good ways. It can be educative and inspiring and so many great people here in Steemit do their best to make the world a better place. It's not only by talking, it's also by doing.
Some Steemians in Vienna, Austria, have started a Global School Project that is really worth watching and may serve as a world wide model:
https://steemit.com/life/@jnmarteau/report-of-the-3-weeks-of-steemit-workshops-at-the-global-school
@jnmarteau, @manncpt and @wolfgangsieberth are already working on another project also worth observing and surely also worth being supported by resteeming and whatever ;) The "Idea factory" can be read here https://steemit.com/life/@jnmarteau/idea-factory-how-can-you-help-to-create-the-first-place-of-a-network-of-autonomous-places-based-on-blockchain-to-support
Maybe you like to join the discussion of these projects or maybe you like to inspire others to realize similar projects in other regions. This way, one more step towards a better worls is done again! :) Have a nice day!

in reading this, part of me has a lot of fear of this coming here. Then I also think we have never been like china. They have a strick work career system. We may end up with a part of this, its already happening with our cell phones and web ads hitting us. But deep down this is not me. I have more security in what i feel vs what i think .
