EIC ~ Electron Ion Collider
EIC, Electron Ion Collider coming to BNL, Brookhaven National Laboratory, which is 5 minutes from my house... as the crow flies....
It will cost 1.6 to 2.6 billion dollars to build over a ten year period.
It's purpose is to explore the "strong force" that binds the inside of atoms.
This new collider will help keep the Us in the forefront of nuclear physics research. Dan Brouillette, U.S. Secretary of Energy says “This facility will deepen our understanding of nature and is expected to be the source of insights ultimately leading to new technology and innovation.”
The Lab already has a half mile accelerator ring used to smash atoms with protons at very high speeds.
