THE THREE COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT MINING INDUSTRY : SCIENCE
Mining is the process of accessing and getting valuable minerals or materials that is beneath the earths surface. Thus, it includes the removal of soil and rocks covering the valuable materials or in a method of underground to get the desired minerals. This minerals can be oil, soil that contains iron, coal or rocks that contains gold and copper. However, opposite to what the anti-mining people believe, mining actually supports and boosts human society. And of course, with the ever advancing mining technologies and strict environmental policies, mining processes becomes more and more environmental-friendly.
There are a lot of people that are having negative perceptions about the mining industry. Here are the three common misconceptions in the perspective of people towards the Industry of Mining.
- We don't need mining in our daily lives
Apparently this is so wrong. We need the products of mining industry to sustain and improve our quality of life. From the technology you use and almost what you see in your surroundings are products of mining.
These gadgets and technology materials uses minerals to be made.
Virtually almost all of the infrastructures and products that we are enjoying nowadays need raw materials from mining. We need the mining industry to improve and sustain modern civilization.
- Mining doesn't help reduce poverty
Now this is also wrong. A mining company generates employment and provide livelihood programs. It also contributes to the local and even national economic growth. Note that a to operate a mining company, it needs hundred to thousands of employees:
a. Operator of large equipment's.
b. Assigned people to handle and help community development related programs.
c. Engineers and Geologists also plays the most vital role in a mining company.
d. Environmentalists and management experts.
e. People that are assigned to handle general and administrative tasks such as human resource.
f. Supporting employees such as cleaners or janitors, carpenters, security guards and other supporting jobs.
Other contributions of the Mining Industry in the economy are the:
a. Local and National taxes
b. Local and National community development projects such as livelihood programs, road projects and others.
- Mining permanently devastates the environment
this is the most common misconception of people about mining. Mined out areas can become beautiful again by means of rehabilitation.
Correcting Misconceptions about Mining Source
The disturbance and destruction of the land due to mining is not really permanent. It can be rehabilitated into beautiful and sustainable landscapes.

As for environmental impact, I would say that you're right and you're wrong.
It all depends on the legal regulation of the country where are the mines.
I found the pictures on the Internet, and somewhere I personally met where after mining remained wasteland.
