Understanding Brain waves

in #science8 years ago

Whenever neurons within our brains communicate by electrical impulses, they create a wave-like pattern – the so-called brain waves - which can be measured via electroencephalography (EEG). Depending on the present state of consciousness, these patterns generate waves with unique frequencies of oscillation, ranging from 0.2 Hertz (cycles per second) to 38 Hertz, whereas even more has been measured in people during various transcendental experiences.
The bandwidth is subdivided into the five sections Delta, Theta, Alpha, Beta and Gamma. The following descriptions explain the characteristics that accompany the different brainwave sections, from total unconsciousness to high peak experiences.

Did you know?

Music can alter your brain waves flow and either lift up or bring down your mood.

You ever wonder why some songs make you cry and others make you happy?

Yo Like musical sounds, different states of mind are defined by distinct, characteristic waveforms, recognizable frequencies and rhythms in the electrical field of the brain. When the brain is alert and performing complex computations, the cerebral cortex, the wrinkled outer surface of the brain, thrums with cortical band oscillations in the gamma wavelength; in some neurological disorders like schizophrenia, these waves are out of tune and the rhythm is out of sync. ur Brainwaves can also shape your reality. (I encourage you to watch "The Secret" on Netflix)

Your thoughts and emotions are rooted in the communications between neurons. I think it's SUPER cool how electric humans are.

Two neuroscientists from Toulouse university claim this image will actually let you see your own brain waves!

Stare at the pinwheel for a few seconds then look at a spot slightly away from it. You should be able to see the center of the pinwheel flicker when it’s in your peripheral vision.

Their theory claims that the flickering reflects the brain’s alpha waves. (These are electrical fields generated in our brain)
