RE: Our Modern World: The Paradox of Choice and Dopamine Junkies

in #science7 years ago

"And I can partly attribute this to the rise of the social media and technology."

I work with psychologists who teach. One of these professors likes to talk off-the-cuff from the syllabus periodically. He said that he and his colleagues have noted that almost 100% of millenials who are heavy social media users are basically now diagnostic of NPD (narcissistic personality disorder).

I'm not sure what we can do about technology evolving much faster than human nature. These are almost expected outcomes when you look at the kind of instant gratification available. The paradox of choice is now enormous thanks to the internet. Anything you want has endless options.

Unfortunately, those psychologists also noted that women were more likely to be heavy social media users. This may explain why Ryan Seacrest recently noted that in a survey of male users of Tinder, the #1 complaint was height requirements being the first line of a woman's bio.
