Very nice post that I have found very plasant to read. I would like to shoot a few comments, if you allow me to do so. :)

At this density, the laws of physics start to break down, and quantum mechanics kick in.

Actually, quantum mechanics already kicks in way before. Neutron stars are stable systems thanks to quantum mechanics.

Also, with respect to preons: there is no proof they exist so far. All experiments trying to exhibit the substructure of the quarks leads to null results.

Noted, and yeah, the bit about the preon stars is purely theoretical, as stated. They kept being mentioned, though, and the concept is super cool! :D

Just to continue the discussion, I actually don't buy these preon guys. I have issues to understand how this could work with respect to the uncertainty principles.
