We are indeed living in a strange era.
Mixing science, politics and politically correctness leads to a very bad shake. it is however more and more what is going on today. On the other hand, people, as you said it, use the term "scientifically proven" for many things that are not, which yields to conspiracy theories and things like that.
It makes me sad and scared for the future. Science doesn't have politics or feeling, but people with agendas are trying to change that.
