Lightning May Be Protecting Living Organisms

Experiments with rat heart cells show that extremely weak electromagnetic fields of very low frequencies that are constantly being generated in the atmosphere by lighting could have a protective effect on cells.

It almost sounds like magic. But the Earth has always been a planet of lighting. And apart from solar radiation it has been lighting, that has been the main producer of electromagnetic radiation in the Earth’s atmosphere. Nowadays, at any given moment, there are roughly two thousands of storms active.

Thanks to the fact that earthly organisms have been living in an electromagnetic field created thanks to something called the Schumann resonances – increased values in the visible spectrum of very low frequencies of electromagnetic radiation. These are global resonances created by lighting at a base frequency of roughly 7.83 Hz.

Colin Price and his coworkers from the Tel Aviv University found that under certain circumstances Schumann resonance have a small, but detectable effect on living cells. They claim the atmospheric electromagnetic field is protecting cells in unfavorable conditions. For example, when cells lack oxygen in hot or cold temperatures the field is protecting them from damage.

The scientists performed many different experiments in which they created fields similar to the ones created thanks to the lighting in the atmosphere. It took roughly half an hour before the field had an effect on living rat hearth cells. The electromagnetic field limited spontaneous muscle contraction or lowered the amount of creatine kinase. Creatine kinase levels actually correspond to how much the cells is damaged.
