RE: CrowdScience News. Volunteer project Einstein@Home discovers first millisecond pulsar visible only on Gamma Rays
So you are mining pulsars detections, right?
So you are mining pulsars detections, right?
Nice analogy!
The difference is that you can't spread pulsar detection among large number of volunteers.
The main goal of the project is to detect continuous gravity waves from sources like pulsars (CPU only application) using data from Laser Interferometer facilities.
The project also runs a pulsar search application which extends the project to GPU and helps maintain credit while the gravity wave search is between experiments. Data for the pulsar search comes from a variety of radio telescopes and recently the Fermi gamma-ray telescope which enabled the detection of this new type of star.
