23 years have passed since the discovery of the first extrasolar planet. Sometimes we have the idea that this of the exoplanets is something relatively new, but in fact we have already spent several decades dedicating time and effort to it. Sample of this is Gliese 229B, an exoplanet (brown dwarf) orbiting around Gliese 229B, a red dwarf type star located about 18 light years from us.

The confirmation of the existence of Gliese 229 B took place on October 27, 1994 and the person responsible for this finding was the American astronomer of the University of California Ben Oppenheimer.

This exoplanet is within the category of brown dwarf, a type of sub-stellar body that reaches a mass between 26 and 65 times the mass of Jupiter. They are known colloquially as "failed" stars since they did not reach the levels of mass and pressure necessary to initiate and maintain fusion nuclear reactions.
