What you see in the image is a part of the galaxy NGC 428 a barred spiral of "disordered" appearance that is found about 48 million light years from us in the constellation Cetus. The undefined form of this galaxy is thought to be due to a past collision with another galaxy that passed too close, in addition to having dense areas of star formation, which are generated when gas clouds of galaxies combine during Its approach, leading to the birth of huge stellar clusters.

NGC 428 was discovered in 1786 by William Herschel.
