I agree with this very much. However, here in the US they have actually arrested and charged fines to people for living off the grid.

They have even made farming and collecting rainwater illegal in some places.
People cannot even dig a pond on their own land without the Bureau of Land Management stepping in and causing trouble.

It is all very sad but they want us so dependent on the Government that self-reliance is quickly becoming a crime and it is sickening!
