Chemical Magic #6 The Secret Behind Magnet Melt the Metal

in #science7 years ago

Welcome back to my post, in this opportunity i wanna share you something about chemical look like a magic,

Source :businessinsider

some people think this was a magic and some other think this is a science. I was amazed when I first watched this video, Do you believe a magnet can melt metal? This video has been watched 9 million times, even my own initially feel strange, whether this magic or science. After I observe, I know what exactly happened in this video. How does a magnet melt a metal ? Chemistry Explain You. . . Watch The Video Bellow ;

Certainly, You have a question how can the magnet melt, Okey i will explain you.

When we were in Senior High School. we have learned about the magnetism of electricity, it meansn we can generate magnetic energy that from a battery, so this technique makes metal melt. Electrical energy can be generated from magnets, and electrical energy can be converted into heat energy. You can see this energy change electric iron, water heater, rice cooker etc. these tools have converted electrical energy into heat energy. Electric motion induction is a change of amount magnetic force caused by difference potential, the movement of magnetic (in-out coil) will arise an induction, the magnetic force will increase when magnetic goes close to the coil and vice versa. if this state continues the magnetic force will continue to change the result of different potential, the electric current passing through the coil called as current induction. The more the number of coils, the induction of electric current will increase and the electric force will be greater then the galvanometer needle will go opposite further. In the electric generator there was a transformer, if it barely shut down it feels hot, Why? because the transformer doesn't transfer all electrical energy of primary coil to the secondary coil through electromagnetic induction. But some of energy turns into heat energy due to the resistance of wire and current induction, the smaller efficiency of a transformer the greater of electrical energy turns into heat energy, and vice versa.

How Can The Metal Melt ?

This was related to chemical substance melting point, all chemicals have different melting points, some low and some other high value, Do you know? not all metal has high melting point but there are some metal has a melting point below 183oC called as Fusible Alloy, they will melt below the boiling point of water, for examples of Fusible Alloy are Rose's metal, Cerrosafe, Roto158f, Wood's metal. you can pay attention of video above, the diameter of coil only a few times of pencil diameter, when metal color has be red color (burning), but the pencil (wood material and carbon) not be burning, usually the wood will burn at temperature 100oC, in the video above the pencil does not burn in few seconds, if the coil temperature reaches 600 - 1000oC certainly the pencil has burned, but it nothing. it mean the heat of coil temperature doesn't reach 100oC. But the metal melt at low temperature, because the Fusible alloy will melt bellow 100oC, for example Roto158f, it will melt at 700C (158 oF), so you don't need high temperature to melt this metal.

Another Way of Metal Melt

There is also metal that can melt at room temperature, you don't need high temperatures to melt the metal, you just need temperature 29oC and metal it can melt in your hand, that metal is Gallium, gallium compound usually used as a glass coating to serve as a mirror, mechanically the gallium was less toxic but this substance difficult to handle. But to melt iron and aluminum require high temperatures above 700oC, sometimes we pay less attention as if all metal are like iron, aluminum, titanium and its kind, to melt theses metal must with high temperatures.

Conclusion

Actually, the video above is not a magic, but just a trick in heating with metal material and has low melting point, because we less of pay attention, as if the metal above is an iron (lead) and coil temperature reach generated by magnet 1000oC . if the temperature reaches 1000oC then the pencil will melt also.

Hm, I am late to read your post before, but better late than not
And wellcome back, hope you more better today :)

just an observation, many of them think this black magic hahaha, actually this was fusible alloy

you are one of the greatest writers. i like you
