Deja Vu. Could Unfamiliar Events Be Encoded In Our Genes?

Deja Vu. Could our genes be reminding us of the past? Just about everyone has had a moment where one stops and thinks, I've been at this location before or I've seen this event in the past but remain absolutely certain that this could not have been the case. Could such occurrences represent a manifestation of genetic encoding that has captured the events in the lives of past relatives?

This question just came to mind out of the blue but led me to give the idea some serious contemplation. Take for example the concept of animal instinct. The most classic example that I can think of is that of fight or flight. This is the hard coded mechanism that springs into action where an immediate thread exists and presents those facing danger with the option of fleeing or to fight back. Fight or flight is seen as an automatic response and happens rather quickly. It is a survival instinct and is hard wired into the brain. That being said, could the past experiences of our ancestors also be encoded into our genetic make-up? Could it be that when we find ourselves at an unfamiliar location or in a unique situation and we think, somehow I know this place or I seen this before, that it may be the encoded memories of some distant relatives? At any rate, I think the concept make have some merit and deserves some further research.

Ideas and comments are welcomed.
