Results of the new Cancer test. Amazing!

A test that analyzes residues of tumor cells circulating in the blood has been able to detect eight of the most common types of cancer in a study based on samples from more than 1,000 patients.

The results, which the journal Science presented yesterday online, represent a step towards the goal of early diagnosis of a majority of cancers through blood tests. This test would detect cancers before they cause symptoms and when they can still be cured by surgery alone.

High probability of success

The researchers studied a total of 1,005 patients who had been diagnosed with eight common types of pre-metastatic cancer, and who were diagnosed based on symptoms of the disease.

The study also included 850 healthy individuals. Thus, the scientists managed to have this test detect cancer with a sensitivity of between 69% and 98% -depending on the type of tumor- in these more than a thousand patients. In addition, they found that the probability of a healthy person receiving a false positive result "is very low.

For those responsible for this work, the ultimate goal of CancerSEEK is to detect cancer even before the disease is symptomatic. Scientists estimate that the cost of this single blood test could be less than $500 (' 408), which is a comparable amount or less than some of the current screening tests, such as colonoscopy for colon cancer.
