Life in the solar system.

in #science8 years ago

As you travel through the solar system, you may realize that you have not encountered living beings. According to scientists' current knowledge, the earth is the only planet in the solar system that contains life. This does not mean, however, that there are no living beings out there.

For life as we know it to develop, certain conditions must be met. Two very important conditions are moderate temperatures and liquid water. And both must be present for billions of years for life to evolve. By chance, Earth has possessed these two conditions for most of its estimated 4.6 billion year history. This is due partly to the fact that Earth happens to be in the very narrow life zone of its star the sun.

If Earth had formed only 7.5 million kilometers closer to the sun, temperatures probably would have been too hot to support life. A location just 1.5 million kilometers more distant from the sun would have produced an Earth covered with frozen water. Again, life would not have developed. Yet these are simply probabilities. Even on Earth, living things have been found in the most improbable places.

Life on earth will be extinguished?

There are many theories of how life on earth will be extinguished. One talks about how the earth will have a displacement close to the sun, and this will heat the waters and everything present. In the same way it can be in the opposite way, that is enough away from the sun to freeze the entire planet. In addition to all the damage that human beings do directly to the earth affecting their naturalness. According to studies, it is determined that for this type of events to occur. thousands and thousands of years will pass. Even NASA prepares itself in any situation looking for planets where they can inhabit living beings.

Trappist-1

NASA has clarified that the deepest studies indicate that there are two places that until now are potentially habitable. Thomas Zurbuchen, one of the heads of the Science Missions Department of NASA, assures that these theories also bring us closer to answering the question of whether we are really alone in the universe.

At 39 light-years from Earth, in the constellation of Aquarius, there is a dwarf, ultra-thin and very thin star named Trappist-1, in which there are seven worlds with sizes similar to those of Earth. These have certain characteristics that, in principle, would allow them to have liquid water and, as a consequence, to harbor some type of life.

Mars

Of these seven planets, three are particularly promising to be considered 'twins' of the Earth, as they are in the so-called habitable zone of their star and are probably rocky worlds. It should be noted that never before had a solar system been found so close with so many planets so similar to ours

Curiosity and Opportunity, two NASA exploration vehicles, are at a distance of 5,200 miles (8,368 kilometers) on the surface of Mars.

Opportunity does not have the necessary instruments to detect carbon or nitrogen, -elements necessary for life- directly. But he has been able to find smectite clay minerals, which are formed in the presence of water, in rocks at the edge of the Endeavor crater.

Curiosity, on the other hand, landed in Gale Crater, and helped scientists determine that an area called Yellowknife Bay was habitable in other times. Here, streams of water descended from the edge of the crater, forming a lake-stream-groundwater system that could have existed for millions of years.
