Steps of bridges realization (part 2)

1-Introduction:

• As I mentioned in the first part of this publication on the stages of construction of a bridge, we will directly start this second part by talking on the deck of a bridge.

2-Definition

• The deck is the horizontal element directly supporting the traffic and the loading of the bridge for which it was built for example (the element supporting the road traffic in the case of a road bridge) it supports loads in a way direct and with intermediate supports (piles and abutments) it transmits them to the ground by the foundations.

2- the different sorts of bridge decks:

• There are several sorts of bridge decks and its, depending on the bridge to be made and depending on the difficulties we can mention some techniques for making deck decks:

2-1: Apron poured on site:

• This technique is the oldest method because in this method we work directly on site to achieve a formwork and work directly the reinforcement of the deck as well as concreting.

2-2: Prefabricated apron:

• This technique is the most used at present because it allows the implementation of the deck in the ground (prefabrication area) then it will be placed on site directly using handling equipment (cranes) and in this day this technique becomes effective and widely used.

2-3: Apron made by pushing:

• This technique allows the realization of the deck to the extimacy of the bridge on hanger and each part will be completed it will be pushed on the supports so on until the completion of the deck.

2-4: Apron made by corbelling:

• This technique can be cast on the spot using a sliding formwork starting from an intermediate support by casting both sides in parallel to ensure balance, and can be achieved by prefabrication by laying the two elements on one side and the other in a symmetrical way to ensure balance.
